If you're staying in Bangkok for weeks or months rather than days, renting long-term works differently — here's what changes, and what to ask before you sign up.
Daily rate vs. monthly rate
Monthly rentals cost far less per day than booking daily — most shops, including ours, drop the per-day rate significantly once you commit to a week or month. If you know you'll be in the city more than 10 days, ask for the long-term rate upfront rather than paying daily and re-upping.
What to check before signing a longer contract
Confirm what's covered if the bike needs a repair — a decent shop swaps you a replacement rather than leaving you stranded. Ask whether the deposit is cash or a passport hold, and get the total cost and return date in writing over chat, not just verbally at pickup.
License and insurance for longer stays
An International Driving Permit covers most visitors for the length of a typical tourist visa. If you're staying long enough to get a Thai driver's license, it's worth doing — it simplifies insurance claims and police stops considerably. Every rental includes basic compulsory (พ.ร.บ.) insurance, but it doesn't cover damage to the bike — worth keeping in mind for a longer stay.
Maintenance on a long-term bike
A scooter ridden daily for a month needs an oil change and a basic check partway through. Ask upfront whether routine maintenance is included or billed separately — with us it's included for any rental of a month or longer.
